4MLinux is a small, independent, general-purpose Linux distribution with a strong focus on the following four "M" of computing:

  • Maintenance (system rescue Live CD)
  • Multimedia (full support for a huge number of image, audio and video formats),
  • Miniserver (DNS, FTP, HTTP, MySQL, NFS, Proxy, SMTP, SSH, and Telnet),
  • Mystery (meaning a collection of classic Linux games).

Edit your documents with LibreOffice 25.2 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.6, GIMP 3.1.2, Gnumeric 1.12.59), surf the Internet with Firefox 140.0 and Chrome 138.0, send emails via Thunderbird 140.0, enjoy your music collection with Audacious 4.4.2, watch your favorite videos with VLC 3.0.21 and SMPlayer 25.6.0, play games powered by Mesa 25.1.0 and Wine 10.11. You can also setup a very lightweight HTTP/FTP server (based on BusyBox 1.37.0). Perl 5.40.2, Python 2.7.18, Python 3.13.3, and Ruby 3.4.3 are also available.

As always, the new major release has some new features. 4MLinux can now be installed on Bcachefs partitions (but only in UEFI mode). This release ships with much improved support for mobile devices (via Bluetooth and PTP/MTP protocols). Stella (Atari 2600 VCS emulator) and Brutal Chess have been added to the 4MLinux GamePack collection. Aqualung (music player), Googles (music manager), QWinFF (media converter), Fastfetch (system monitor) are now included out of the box. GIMP4, gnuplot (famous plots generator), ReZound (audio editor) are available as downloadable extensions. And finally, optional (ready-to-install) Intel VAPPI drivers can be found on the 4MLinux LiveCD.
