TrueNAS Core, formerly FreeNAS, is a tiny FreeBSD-based operating system which provides Network Attached Storage (NAS) services (CIFS, FTP and NFS). ZFS is its prime component, a combined storage management and file system. Be aware that iXsystems treats this build as test-drive only or legacy, a stage prior to becoming more engaged with their sales / support function, on more advanced platforms such as "Community Edition" aka SCALE.
