Knoppix 8.0 German CeBIT version converted to English (DE to EN conversion).

The English version of CeBIT Knoppix is usually released in the April edition of Linux Magazine. This year it was only released in the German magazine (in German only). I obtained a copy of the DVD and hacked it to boot in English. I did this mostly for myself, but I am sharing it here for your enjoyment.

The /KNOPPIX/bootonly.iso has been converted too. It can be used to CD boot older machines, but you need to copy the /KNOPPIX/ folder to the hard drive or a connected USB flash drive.

The initial boot screen as well as the F1/F2/F3 help menus are still in German, but after that, everything should be in English. See knoppix-cheatcodes.txt for boot help.

Starting from version 8.0, the KNOPPIX iso files are hybrid images that can not only be burned on CD/DVD, but also directly copied bitwise (use dd or diskimager) to flash or harddisks in order to create a bootable medium. However, because of the used iso9660 file system, the first partition will remain read-only, so files like the boot options list cannot be changed easily. The KNOPPIX flash installer "flash-knoppix" can be used in order to create a USB flash pen with fully writable partitions, like before.

 New in 8.0.0:

Kernel (4.9.6) and system software (Debian Jessie+Stretch) updated,
New, experimental version of 3D window manager compiz 0.9.13.1,
LXDE (Default) with filemanager PCMANFM 1.2.5, KDE 5.8.4 (boot option knoppix desktop=kde, DVD version only), GNOME 3.22 (boot option knoppix desktop=gnome, DVD version only),
Wine version 2.0.0 (git) for integration of Windows (TM) based programs,
    qemu-kvm 2.8 for (para-)virtualization.
ADRIANE Audio-Desktop: mpsyt Youtube (TM)-Client for console, Orca 3.22.2 for compiz,
electrum 2.7.9 for managing Bitcoin Wallets,
tiny "boot only" CD image inside the "KNOPPIX" directory for computers that can only boot from CD, but not from DVD or USB flash drive,
Experimental support for UEFI-Boot and Secure Boot after installation on USB flash disk.
