Freenix (formerly known as FreeSlack) is a Free and Open-Source Software project and Slackware-derived GNU/Linux distribution. The project's primary goals are to document all non-free software components in the Slackware distribution and to make it easy for users to maintain a fully free Slackware-based OS. The project has developed an easy way to maintain a free OS based on Slackware and is committed to ongoing compliance with the Free System Distribution Guidelines (GNU FSDG).

Freenix achieves its free and libre edition of Slackware by applying only the minimum of necessary, well documented changes to an otherwise unchanged Slackware. Consequently Freenix uses the deblobbed Linux-libre kernel and keeps track of the licensing of every Slackware component and package. Components not complying to the FSDG are listed and removed. Derived from Slackware, Freenix belongs to the systemd-free GNU/Linux distributions.

As of May 2018 the latest official release is Freeslack64 14.2 under the then used former project name, matching the latest Slackware 14.2 release. Currently Freenix is available for x86_64 systems only.
