The idea for AtlasX started about a year ago. The big (regular) Linux Operating Systems didn't fit our needs anymore, mainly because the heavy use of systemresources, too much dependencies, less flexibility and unstable behavior in some distro's. And the new kernel (3.x.x) loves laptop batteries! The third and most important reason was the need for a fast and clean desktop. Enlightenment is our first choice, although it's heavily under developement, it's stable enough, does the job very well and is suitable for daily personal computing. For business and/or small office we recommend Gnome.

For those folks who are still searching for the perfect balance between a reliable and fast desktop OS: Try AtlasX.
