The Fuduntu quarterly installation ISO image (2012.1) is now available for immediate download. As with all Fuduntu releases, this release continues our tradition of small incremental improvements. It is important to note that existing Fuduntu users will roll up to this version through the normal update process, and do not need to download or install from this media to benefit from this release.

This release marks a shift in release numbering. Going forward, Fuduntu releases will be numbered as follows:

Year.Release

We will ring in the new year with Fuduntu 2012.1.

As we are a rolling release distribution with quarterly snapshots, you should expect four roll-up releases this year. We do not define a specific release date, we release when we believe it is ready which may happen at any time after the beginning of each quarter.

Package updates in this release:

Linux Kernel 3.1.6
Chromium 16
Adobe Flash Player 11.1.102.55

Many new packages available in the repository including LibreOffice 3.4.3, and Firefox and Thunderbird 9. Fuduntu enjoys a wide selection of packages, these and many more are available by selecting System > Administration > Add / Remove Software.

Major changes in this release:

The default theme has seen many improvements this cycle, from a refinement of the metacity theme to the complete replacement of the default font. The former theme has been branded Fuduntu Classic and is available in System > Preferences > Appearance.

In addition, I am pleased to announce that Fuduntu now uses the Google Droid Sans font as our default. This is an amazing typeface, and it really dials it all in.

Additionally, we no longer configure the GNOME Terminal to use a bold font by default.

GIMP is no longer included in Fuduntu as a default. Users that need this software can find it in the repository by using the Add / Remove Software utility.

Since Fuduntu has become an independent distribution, the team has added thousands of new or updated packages to the repository, and we are adding more all the time. As we grow it is critical to the community that the team also grows. In order to continue to serve the needs of our users, we need your help. If you are a Fuduntu user, or you are interested in joining and helping the Fuduntu Team; please reach out to an existing team member for guidance on becoming a Fuduntu Intern sponsored by a Fuduntu Team member. This new program is designed to guide interested members of the community down the road towards becoming a valuable contributor.

Thank you all for a great 2011, we hope that you continue to enjoy Fuduntu.
