Emmabuntüs DE 5 is a desktop Linux distribution based on Debian 12 XFCE/LXQt. It strives to be beginner-friendly and reasonably light on resources so that it can be used on older computers. It also includes many modern features, such as large number of pre-configured programs for everyday use, dockbar for launching applications, easy installation of non-free software and media codecs, and quick setup through automated scripts. The distribution supports English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Danish and Spanish languages.

On April 10th, 2023, the Emmabuntüs Collective is happy to announce its Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 5 Alpha 1 (32 and 64 bits) new release, based on Debian 12 RC 1 Bookworm currently in development and supporting both Xfce and LXQt desktop environments.

For this version Alpha 1, the following and improvements and fixes have been implemented:

- Based on the Debian 12 RC 1
- Added Deb-get and Deborah utilities
- Added parental control CTparental
- Fixed apt cache creation
- Used gnome-packagekit from the repository
- GRUB improvement to 1024x768 and message about installing Calamares
- Filezilla in 64-bit version only present on Debian 12
- Removed Childsplay, Omnitux-ligth, Wammu, System-config-samba due to deprecated Python 2
- Removed Samba, bind9
- Disabled HTTPS in normal mode in Firefox
- Disabled insecure default umask (World Readable Files)
- Update: Firefox 102.9.0esr, Thunderbird 102.9.0, Ventoy 1.0.90, Warpinator 1.4.5, The Debian Bullseye 11.4 beginner's handbook, TurboPrint 2.54-1, Boot-Repair 4ppa200
