With the Ubuntu 12.04 VMware image including tools (http://www.traffictool.net/vmware/ubuntu1204t.html) you will get a VMware appliance that can run virtualized under your host OS. For running this image under all main OSes you will need special software from VMware. However, the freely available VMware Player will do fine.
