KaOS is a desktop Linux distribution that features the latest version of the KDE desktop environment, the Calligra office suite, and other popular software applications that use the Qt toolkit. It was inspired by Arch Linux, but the developers build their own packages which are available from in-house repositories. KaOS employs a rolling-release development model and is built exclusively for 64-bit computer systems.
Current Version
The September version ships with Plasma 5 as the default desktop, it includes non-free Nvidia drivers, KDE Applications 20.08.1, Linux kernel 5.7.19 (Linux-next is in the repo's, following the 5.8 series), GCC 9.3.0, Glibc 2.31, Systemd 246, Kmod 27, Xorg-server 1.21.9, Qt 5.15.1, Mesa 20.1.8, LibreOffice 7.0.1, Elisa and the latest versions of Falkon, Octopi, Kde-Telepathy. For those wondering about gtk apps, Firefox 81.0, Chrome 87, Thunderbird 78.2.2, GIMP 2.10.20, Ardour 6.3.0 are among the available in their latest version.
Known Issues
Installing on RAID is currently not possible
To create reliable Media for booting the Live ISO, please select USB or DVD and follow the instructions for either using a USB flash drive or DVD disc. Though UEFI booting is supported, Secure Boot is not at this time. See this link for more on Secure Boot.
