CarbonOS – an open-source operating system, based on FreeDOS kernel. CarbonOS is a successor of discontinued LightDOS operating system created by the same author – Corbin Davenport.
The main goals:
– based on FreeDOS 1.1, giving Carbon 100% compatibility with DOS
– 4DOS 8.00 command line
– FAT12/16/32 file system support
– support for CD/DVD drives without configuration
– support for Win95 long file names
The most important change between LightDOS and CarbonOS is, that CarbonOS works as a live CD (and can be installed too) as most Linux distributions.
You can customize Carbon for whatever you want too, run the compiler, and create new .iso file ready for burning.
As of July 16, 2015 the project is no longer under active development.
