Unlike Mac OS X, Darwin10 is a free operating system. This distribution is small enough(compressed) to fit on a CD-R and contains most Apple binaries that can be downloaded at src.macosforge.org. On macosforge.org you will find more files to download and the overall size of all files is more than a CD-Rom. This distribution does not contain a kernel, but its userland can run on GNU/Linux using Shinichiro Hamaji's mach-o loader. Thanks to macosforge.org you do not need a Mac or register as an Apple developer and download Xcode angry.gif (about 3.5 GB) to get Darwin binaries and a working compiler for Darwin.
