Emmabuntüs is a desktop Linux distribution based on Xubuntu. It strives to be beginner-friendly and reasonably light on resources so that it can be used on older computers. It also includes many modern features, such as large number of pre-configured programs for everyday use, dockbar for launching applications, easy installation of non-free software and media codecs, and quick setup through automated scripts. The distribution supports English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and German languages.
On January First, 2014, the Emmabuntüs Team is pleased to announce the first release of Emmabuntüs 2 64-bit 1.06 based on Xubuntu 12.04.3. This distribution was designed to make the refurbishing of computers given to humanitarian organizations, especially Emmaüs communities (where the name comes from), and to promote the discovery of Linux by beginners, but also to extend the lifespan of the equipment and to reduce over consumption & over waste in electronics.
This new version will make better use of machines equipped eg AMD64, Core2, and some Dual-Core that are about to hit the market opportunity, such as the machine Esprimo P2550 (Dual-Core E5300, you can use this link to see if your machine is 64 bits, indicating the reference of your Intel Processor) pictured below.
To ensure proper installation of Emmabuntüs 2, we advise you to first install it without Internet, and then to get online on the first reboot to complete your install.
